A Curated Art & Design Walk Through Helsinki
Perfect for visitors to Helsinki, private groups, companies & design lovers.
Why was a chair named after Wassily Kandinsky? How does a piece of furniture become a work of art? And why do certain designs continue to inspire architects, artists and collectors around the world decades after they were created?
Along the way, we will encounter the work of legendary designers including Alvar Aalto, Eero Aarnio, Yrjö Kukkapuro, Arne Jacobsen, Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer and Gaetano Pesce — discovering the stories, ideas and personalities behind their iconic pieces.
This is not a traditional sightseeing tour or a lecture on design. It is a carefully curated journey into the world of iconic furniture, visionary designers and the fascinating human stories behind some of the most recognisable objects in Scandinavian and international design.
Our experience begins at De Andres Gallery, Runeberginkatu 42, with a glass of sparkling wine and an introduction to the first legendary design pieces. From there, we set off through Helsinki, discovering places where iconic chairs and remarkable pieces of furniture are not hidden behind museum glass, but are part of everyday life.
Along the way, we explore the people behind these design icons, the ideas and circumstances that brought them to life, and the ways in which designs conceived decades ago continue to shape contemporary interiors and visual culture.
Among the highlights is the celebrated Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer, named after the artist Wassily Kandinsky. You will also encounter Scandinavian classics and internationally renowned pieces, each with its own distinctive character and story — and some you can even experience for yourself.
The walk concludes at one of Helsinki’s most beautiful viewpoints, where there will be time to share impressions, ask questions and enjoy panoramic views across the city over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
The experience is hosted by designer and Scandinavian design expert Irina De Andres.
Welcome to an inspiring journey that will change the way you look at furniture, interiors and the design that surrounds us every day.
